(An Aesop Fable)
We get the rulers we deserve.
The frogs were always arguing and complaining among themselves and decided to ask the great god Zeus to send them a king.
Zeus saw how simple they were and so easily persuaded.
He just dropped a large block of wood in the pond.
The frogs were frightened by the splash and dived and hid on the bottom of the pond.
They watched in terror and apprehension for any direction from their new king.
Since there was no movement from this large block of wood they came to the surface and examined it.
They jumped on top of the wooden block and continued arguing and complaining as before.
They became annoyed and them contemptuous of their new king and the way he was ruling them.
They approached Zeus again asking for a new king for it was undignified for them to be ruled this way. Also this king was too easygoing for their liking.
Losing his patience with them Zeus sent them a water snake for their new king.
The water snake devoured as many of them as it could catch.
(This fable teaches us we are better off with a harmless ruler than with a mischief making tyrant.)
