Theatre at Its Farcical Best.
Again, another court sentence that causes spoken outrage from the general public.
The criminal had expressed remorse; his defence lawyer reiterated he is no danger to the public and suggested his client is willing — lucky us for his generosity — to attend some course from a menu of prescribed government programs.
The judge nods at this suggestion, seems to checks with some paper, looks up and gives his verdict and pronounces the sentence.
The scene shifts to outside the courtroom. Here the prosecution states the sentence is the best one considering the circumstances. The defense states his client reluctantly accepts the sentence.
The victim and family are huddled together in shock and sometimes in tears at the absurdity of the sentence.
Is this scene from a Hollywood movie?
No, it is the usual result of the farcical procedure acted out before us.
There is little doubt that the procedure is becoming a burlesque dance to mimic a long-lost procedure of fitting the punishment to the crime.
